LGBTQIA+ Rights

Instead of fixing the power grid, funding our public schools, or improving the lives of working people, Texas Republicans have spent their time stripping away the rights and freedoms of LGBTQIA+ Texans. While many Democratic-led states have established anti-discrimination legislation to protect LGBTQIA+ people, Texas Republicans have actively fought against measures to protect LGBTQIA+ people. Texas: it is time to replace Republican leadership and elect Democrats who will stand up for the freedoms of ALL Texans.

Y’all Means ALL: Under the 14th Amendment, the U.S. Constitution guarantees equal protection under the law to all citizens. This protection should apply universally, ensuring that LGBTQIA+ individuals have the same rights and protections as everyone else, but in Texas, LGBTQIA+ people are vilified by Republicans who have focused their legislative efforts on targeting LGBTQIA+ Texans. Because of this, Texas is ranked as one of the worst states to be LGBTQIA+, but because of Texas Democrats, over 70 anti-LGBTQIA+ bills were blocked, including legislation that would bar teachers from acknowledging LGBTQIA+ students and legislation that would criminalize providing gender-affirming care for trans adults.

Protecting LGBTQIA+ Youth: Right now, Texas Republicans are pushing harmful policies that would classify parents who support their transgender children as abusive. Imagine being a loving parent who only wants to affirm and protect your child—now being treated as a criminal. If Republicans succeed, LGBTQIA+ children could be separated from their families and placed in an already overwhelmed and deeply flawed foster care system. This isn't about protecting kids; it's about tearing families apart. Democrats have been on the front lines fighting for LGBTQIA+ youth and their families to live peacefully and with dignity in Texas.

Texas is at a turning point, and your vote on November 5 can make all the difference. By voting Democratic, you’re saying YES to protecting our LGBTQIA+ youth, YES to freedom and equality, and YES to a brighter, more inclusive future where every Texan, no matter who they are, has the freedom to thrive.
